Alyssa Smith

Alyssa Smith

Owner/Head Trainer

Alyssa Smith has loved animals all her life and always knew she was destined to work with them. Initially, she planned to pursue a career in veterinary medicine—until she discovered her passion for dog training at Sit Means Sit Raleigh. Shortly after high school, while pursuing her degrees in Business and Science, Alyssa began her journey with Sit Means Sit, where she quickly became proficient in handling a variety of behavioral and habitual complexities.

Over the years, Alyssa has earned certifications as an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Evaluator, and a Remote Collar Training Specialist. Her skills extend to working with dogs of all ages and sizes, including those that are visually and/or audibly impaired. She has had the pleasure of serving as lead trainer and assistant manager at Sit Means Sit Raleigh, where she refined her ability to help owners overcome their biggest obstacles with their dogs.

Alyssa found her niche within this company and understands the deep bond between a dog and their owner. She takes pride in helping her clients establish a healthy relationship with their dogs while maintaining a happy, confident, and obedient companion. Her passion for serving the community, combined with her dedication to the Sit Means Sit training methodology, led her to expand into Greensboro and the surrounding areas.

When she isn’t training, Alyssa enjoys hiking scenic trails, kayaking on local lakes and rivers, and exploring local breweries and eateries with friends and family. She also loves to travel, experiencing new places and trying different cuisines.

Skylar Overby

Skylar Overby

Assistant Trainer

Skylar has been surrounded by dogs her entire life, fostering a deep love and understanding of canine companionship from an early age. She fondly recalls helping to wean puppies as a child, which laid the foundation for her lifelong passion for working with animals.

Skylar is the proud owner of Shelby, a 9-year-old German Shepherd/Malinois mix. Over the years, she has dedicated herself to understanding and managing Shelby’s reactivity, a journey that has made their bond stronger than ever. Since joining Sit Means Sit in May 2023, Skylar has worked hard to improve her skills as a handler, learning techniques that not only strengthened her relationship with Shelby but also helped her empathize with and guide dog owners facing similar challenges.

Before her time at Sit Mean Sit, Skylar gained valuable experience in the daycare industry, working hands-on with a variety of dogs for two years. This background, combined with her ongoing training and dedication, has equipped her with the tools to support dogs and their owners in achieving harmony and success.

When she’s not working, Skylar enjoys relaxing at home or hitting the trails for hikes with her dog and boyfriend. Whether at work or in her personal life, she’s committed to helping dogs and their humans live their best lives together.
